URBAN OCEAN
(2024) Stainless steel and installed in Huntington Beach, CA.

Urban Ocean asks viewers to consider the myriad threats facing marine life in our coastal waters. Whales can become entangled in industrial fishing gear and are sometimes struck by large vessels in our busy shipping lanes. Public awareness and science-based policy around these issues are key to ensuring a sustainable future for whales and all ocean life. Urban Ocean juxtaposes the organic beauty of the whale form with the heaviness of industrial material to inspire stewardship of our coastal waters.
